Slowing Down

Yesterday when we got home from swim lessons Macie went straight to bed. She was asleep within 2-3 minutes of laying down. After she woke up she said she didn't feel good. I asked her what was wrong and she said her head hurt and that she was just so tired. A while later the boy fell asleep on the floor and started running a slight fever of 100.1. They did not appear to be sick in any way other than being very tired.

I talked to Macie some more about how she was feeling and I realized what was wrong with them. They were exhausted. Exhausted from going NON-STOP for 3 weeks straight. We have not slowed down at all. Heat, sun, water, outings, etc. and we have not spent any time at home just relaxing and enjoying the break.

I treated the boys fever with Tylenol and Ibuprofen and lots of fluids and Popsicles. I declared the rest of the day a lounge day and we watched movies and just relaxed. I decided that if the fever was still there in the morning I would take them to the doctor.

They woke up this morning feeling great and no fever at all. I did not realize that while I was so busy trying to fill our calendar with things to do that we also needed to slow down a little. This week we are doing just that. No major activities and just staying home. Next week we have an awesome trip planned so hopefully we will be ready.

Yummy smoothies! Strawberry, banana, blueberry and honey. So good.
Watching a movie and taking it easy.

I am so thankful that I listened to my kids and knew what was best for us. Being with friends, swimming like crazy and staying busy was right for us for a bit. But.......staying home and being together is what is good for us RIGHT NOW!

  1. I have had to revamp our schedule.. We do an activity in the morning, or run errands and then we are home in the afternoon to watch movies or play video games..

  2. Glad it was nothing more than exhaustion! And I get it - trying not to run my son & my infant niece ragged during the week. My goal is 2 days at home (although we might walk to the park - no car travel). It's as much to keep from tiring us all to saving money on gas, etc.

Your smoothie photo made me smile - we had almost the exact same smoothie with our dinner tonight. :)
